IBM Watson is a series of AI services and applications that can help businesses solve problems, gain insights and enhance customer experiences. IBM Watson is a question-answering computer system built in IBM’s DeepQA project that can answer queries in natural language. IBM was developed to apply advanced natural language processing, information retrieval, knowledge representation, automated reasoning, and machine learning technologies to open-domain question answering. IBM employs more than 100 different techniques to analyse natural language, identify sources, find and generate hypotheses, find and score evidence, and merge and rank hypotheses.

IBM’s DeepQA software and the Apache UIMA (Unstructured Information Management Architecture) framework implementation are used in Software Watson. The system was created in several languages, including Java, C++, and Prolog. It operates on the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 operating system, with distributed computing provided by the Apache Hadoop framework.
