What’s new with VisionOS?

With Apple releasing this new headset, we’ll almost certainly see a rush of developers making apps that try and take advantage of the new platform in hopes of becoming a trendsetter. While Apple is primarily renowned for its iOS, the embarkment of a visionOS has its own new features to display. Utilising a 3D camera, the VisionOS can take “spatial” images and videos, see them in the headset, and even add panorama images that can wrap around your field of vision while you’re using the device. According to Apple’s press release, “users wearing Vision Pro during a FaceTime call are reflected as a Persona — a digital representation of themselves created using Apple’s most advanced machine learning techniques — which reflects face and hand movements in real time.”
What is ahead for Vision Pro
The Apple Vision Pro prioritises user privacy and security, putting users in complete control of their data. The Optic ID, a novel secure authentication system, analyses a user’s iris through various invisible LED light exposures. The comparison with enrolled Optic ID data, securely stored in the device’s Secure Enclave, allows for instant unlocking of the Apple Vision Pro. Importantly, a user’s Optic ID data remains fully encrypted, inaccessible to apps, and never leaves the user’s device, ensuring it is not stored on Apple servers.
Privacy is a paramount concern, and where a user looks while navigating the Apple Vision Pro is kept confidential. Eye tracking information is not shared with Apple, third-party apps, or websites. To enhance privacy further, data from the camera and other sensors undergoes processing at the system level, eliminating the need for individual apps to access a user’s surroundings to enable spatial experiences. Additionally, the EyeSight feature includes a visual indicator, ensuring transparency when a user is capturing a spatial photo or video.
